York - Mother Adam – Charles Dyer – review
the third of his studies of loneliness, middle aged man and his paralysed mother.. possessive old woman, a former missionary to expotic parts and the son a dejected museum curator.
Two character piece played by Beatrix Lehmann and Roy Dotrice, the play is clearly being tried out for other stages,
The play is held on course by two questions, is the man a virgin and who was his father?
Under the author’s direction Mr Dotrice give a most uncurator-like performance, throwing himself vigorously into the manifold business with more determination to keep things lively than to create a character. The bedridden Miss Lehmann hooding her eyes and alternately playing a watchful lizard and bird of prey gets a good deal closer to some kind of reality. But the whole venture needs to move a good deal further in that direction.”

RSC Stratford Romeo and Juliet – review "Abstract set that goes too far"
“other details defy explanation. Why all those washing lines for instance? Would a top Verona debutante like Juliet get to work beating a carpet while waiting for the nurse (Beatrix Lehmann) to return? And why should Juliet and her mother cave in with laughter at the nurse’s interminable retelling of the story of her childhood tumble? As written, the scne is funny precisely because they are trying to shut the nurse up and get down to business…”
